On Saturday I held a demonstration at a new Scrapbooking 'crop' in the Heartsease area of Norwich. It was organised by Maureen Martin, a lovely lady that I met at my very first workshop back in February. The turnout on Saturday was fantastic, with both beginners and experienced scrapbookers in attendance. There was also an abundance of scrapbooking stash on sale at great prices. For further dates and information about the crop, email me.
I wanted to demonstrate how easy it was to get started in scrapbooking, especially if you are already into rubber stamping. We did a 6" x 6" make and take which is pictured below. I then showed how a small beginning could be expanded upon with a progressive page. I turned my 6 x 6 page into a 12" x 12". This can also be applied to an A4 size (8.5" x 11" in USA) which I have been told is just beginning to take off in UK scrapbooking circles.
I used the Seeing Spots stamp set for embellishments and the Spot On jumbo wheel for the background accented with the three circle stamp in Bashful blue from the seeing spots set. As I didn't have the correct colour ink cartridge for the wheel I used the Apricot Appeal ink pad to ink the wheel. This will give a crisp image for one rotation of the wheel only, so for 6 x 6 it was perfect.
The wheel is ideal for scrapbooking, especially if used with the wheel guide to make your own designer paper.
The cardstock colours used are Very Vanilla (background paper), Bashful Blue, Apricot Appeal and Real Red.
I also used the scallop punch, tag punch and 1/2" circle punch to make the embellishments. The red strip was scalloped using the corner rounder punch. All punches can be found on page 80.
This is the 'progressive' 12" x 12" page. I have used the same supplies as on the smaller page. The background paper was decorated with flowers using the Versamark inkpad. This is a clear ink that gives a slightly shiny, watermark effect. I also used the same effect with dots on the red paper. (Click on the image to enlarge to see detail). Versamark is very versatile and can also be used for chalk techniques and embossing.
I added some Hodgepodge Hardware and brads to give a bit of dimension. The ribbon and chipboard is from my own stash but the Stampin' Up! chipboard letters are definitely on my wish list!
The small words daughter, love, wish and dream are from Daily Flexible Phrases. I love this set. There are so many variations that can be used with these words. Great if you can't find the exact sentiment that you are looking for.
Just a little tip for when cutting out smaller images; hold the scissors still and move the paper when cutting. It is alot easier to control this way and gives a smoother cut, especially around curves as in the flower images on my page.
Here are the two pages put together. I have just noticed that the 6 x 6 isn't sitting properly on the corner frames...funny how you don't notice these things when you have a camera in front of you. Not to worry, I haven't stuck it down yet, PHEW! The green in the photos is the scrapbook album.
So if you are new to scrapbooking don't be daunted by a big 12 x 12 layout. Start small and add to it when you feel more confident if you want to. Also a 6 x 6 scrapbook page can be made into an extra special greetings card for a loved one.
